What Is The Dukan Diet Attack Phase?
Formulated more than 10 years ago by a French nutritionist and dietician, Dr. Peierre Dukan, the dukan diet is weight reduction plan that has been very popular among celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Katherine Jenkins among many others. This weight loss plan has gained tremendous success among people due to its protein rich food menu and its promise of permanent weight reduction.
The dukan diet is typically divided into four phases, the first two phases focusing on weight reduction and the last two phases preventing weight gain. Although, all phases have a distinct purpose, yet the attack phase is the most vital phase as it allows rapid reduction in weight.
The dukan diet attack phase is easy to follow and helps the dieter lose a lot of weight. This is because the dukan diet attack phase mostly focuses on protein rich food and no carbohydrates are allowed during this phase; even fruits are forbidden all through the attack phase.
This is mainly because large intake of protein rich food forces the extra body fat to be consumed to provide the body with the required energy. Also, due to the intake of proteins, the dieter feels full, yet the extra body fats burn, thus leading to weight loss. During the attack phase, the dieter may eat as much as he wants as long as the food is protein rich, free of fats and carbohydrates. This means that the dukan diet does not follow any calorie count. The dukan diet attack phase lasts for about 3-10 days depending on the dieter helping him lose weight in the early stages of the diet.
The idea behind weight loss in the early stages of the diet plan evolves from the fact that all dieters are more motivated during the first few days of the diet. Therefore, during the first few days, they force themselves to follow the diet plan as required in order to lose additional weight. As soon as the excitement and motivation of weight loss wears off, the dieter may be tempted to add carbohydrates and fatty foods to the diet. This is why during the second phase i.e. the cruise phase; the diet plan allows the use of vegetables in the diet.
On an average, users of the dukan diet have reported to lose 1 pound per day, showing that if carefully adopted, the diet may help you lose around 10-15 pounds during the first phase.
Due to the protein rich diet in the dukan diet attack phase, only lean meats such as chicken are allowed. Fish and eggs may also be used during this phase; however, dairy products such as yogurt, cottage cheese and skimmed milk may only be taken if they have 0% fats. The intake of food may be as often as the dieter feels hungry, however, usage of any kind of oil or butter is strictly prohibited. The dieter is also required to have lots of water, recommended about 1.5 liters per day.
Although, other phases of the diet are equally important, but if you have sailed through the attack phase, the rest will be much easier.
